“Every artist was first an amateur” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
*Welcome to art at Corpus Christi! I plan to update this page from time to time with new project ideas and updates on what we are doing in school. IF we must move to a remote learning option at any point this school year, I will use this website to share and communicate with you and your children.
*I plan to work on the same projects/concepts that I typically have done over the past several years using various art materials and learning about many artists. BUT, we will be working on the projects in different ways so that we are not sharing supplies.
*I will assign homework for a few of my middle school projects. But it will be a fun activity that I have no doubt they will enjoy.
*Photography students will be asked to take photographs at home or on location to use during class week by week. The photos will need to be added to a google drive folder that I will share with each student so they can access their images from school or home when needed. Again, the homework will be fun, quick, and easy to complete.

Planned activities for Art Week of March 23 through April 3 (2 weeks)

Project for multiple age levels - Using concentric circles to create flowers with a zentangle twist. Click on button below to take you to a google doc with detailed instructions and photos.

Kindergarten – Learning about Abstract artist Piet Mondrian. We typically watch a short video showcasing Mondrian’s work to allow the students to see how his artwork changed over time from more realistic paintings, to the abstract style he is best known for.
Project – Each student begins with a 9x12 white drawing paper. They use scissors to cut small square and rectangle pieces of paper out of the primary colors (yellow, red and blue). These are then glued to the white paper to create an abstract design. Finally, thin black strips of paper are used to add to the design to complete.

Middle School – We were planning to finish up our Chuck Close inspired paintings once we returned from Spring Break. I will do my best to return all student artwork to them once we are allowed to come back to school. All students have an art folder that contains their artwork throughout the year. They are safely stored in the art closet for now.
Project idea: Printmaking! We normally do a printmaking project every year where the students carve into a linoleum block. They then use brayers and printmaking ink to create many copies of their design in different colors. I am 100% certain most students will not have access to these supplies at home. So I think a monoprint project is a great substitute.

New project for Middle school and/or other ages! I created a google doc with photos to describe how to make a raised foil relief design that I usually share with the middle school students. I have also done this project with 5th graders, but maybe even younger kiddos will enjoy with some parent help. Click this link below called "Raised Foil Relief Design" to take you there:
