Corpus Christi Adult Choir
Members of the choir help lead the assembly in prayer through their musical gifts. The primary role is to add energy to the worship of the entire congregation by embellishing the song with harmonies and choral singing. Choir Rehearsal begins in September and goes through early June. We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 pm starting in September. The Choir sings throughout the year normally at 10:00 am Masses. In addition, the choir provides special music during seasonal celebrations including Christmas and Easter.
Corpus Christi Youth Choir
The Children's Choir is for youth grades 3rd through high school. Choir Rehearsal begins in September and goes through May. We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 3:45-4:45pm starting in September. They sing once a month at the weekend liturgies.
Corpus Christi Handbell Choir
As the parish grows, so does our musical involvement. With the addition of a Handbell Choir more volunteers are needed to fulfill all music ministries. The ability to read basic notes and rhythms is helpful. We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 6-7 pm starting in September and play generally once a month. Handbells are for the "hidden" musician in all of us.
Cantors
The ministry of the parish cantor is to bring the song of the assembled community to life, and to assist the people so that their song may be prayer, from the heart as well as the head. - taken from The Parish Cantor - Michael Connolly. Cantors' primary roles are to encourage the congregation to sing and to proclaim the Word of God through the Psalms. Cantors are required to attend regularly scheduled rehearsals. Cantors sing at the 4:00 pm, 8:30 am and 10:00 am Masses.
Qualifications: Cantors must have a pleasant singing voice, sing on pitch, strong but not overpowering, good sense of rhythm and tempo (slow tempo of a dirge is exhausting for people), good diction and a strong presence to relay the word of God through song.
Instrumentalists
Instrumentalists provide musical accompaniment for the cantors and choir at weekend Masses and special celebrations and enhance the overall sound of music during Liturgy. While people of various levels of ability are welcome to share their talents, a certain level of proficiency is necessary. As with accompanists, there is a wide range of possibilities for brass, stringed and wind instrumentalists to be involved in the Corpus Christi Music Ministry requires audition and commitment to rehearsal and preparation.
