The Family is the Domestic Church and the primary school for all children. If parents choose to supplement their children's education in the faith and otherwise, Catholic schools are an excellent choice. Why? 10 reasons:
- Catholic School students learn an incarnational view of the world where God is present and active in their lives and in the world. They see and hear about the signs of God around them so they may recognize the presence of God in the Church especially through the Sacraments.
- Students are immersed in the Paschal Mystery and how our union with the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus bring redemptive power in our own suffering. This gives them the answer to the mystery of life’s successes and failures and that winning is not always possible nor necessary.
- Catholic school students learn to experience God’s grace and presence in their lives through their family, friends and teachers. As a community of faith we celebrate our successes and achievements - grief and downfalls and our faith unites us in solidarity.
- Catholic School students are presented with a nuanced view of Scripture where they may explore the beauty of the Bible through faith and daily living. It helps them to view the human person as created in the image and likeness of God and destined for eternal life. By applying Scripture to daily living, it helps them to choose life in Christ.
- Civic Engagement. Recent research reports that private school grads are significantly more likely to actively participate in civic activities such as voting, volunteering, letter-writing to legislators, and donations to charities.
- Catholic schools promote and require service as an essential component of their curriculum. Programs such as the Jesuit Volunteer Corps promote at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Programs such as Catholic Charities partner with Catholic schools such as ours as a way to learn that community is at the heart of who we are and there are no strangers, only brothers and sisters in the Lord.
- Catholic schools teach a Catholic view of moral living and are challenged to be like Christ in word and action. They are asked to examine their choices and actions in light of the 10 commandments and the Beatitudes of Jesus. Students are not good because they act in accord with rules, but because as children of God they are expected to choose in keeping with their dignity.
- Through Catholic education, students are exposed to the rich history of the Church through the Arts, Ritual, Drama and Music as part of the richness of our religious tradition and the truest expression of divine praise.
- Catholic education has always been at the heart of the Catholic mission as students are entrusted with the fullness of faith and charged with the mission of evangelization. They are to go out into the world and share their gifts in the service of others and not themselves.
- Catholic school students learn that personal excellence is a response to God’s blessings. Our Catholic schools have an altruistic orientation that the more we succeed the more it is by the goodness of God so that we may make a difference in the world around us.
