As we continue to encourage everyone at Corpus Christi to join us in the 7-week series The Search, here are some basic information and quotes of encouragement.
We are busy people with many things to take us away from time with God and community, but there are many reasons why we need to continue to grow in our wisdom and understanding of life and its purpose and the plan that our God has for us.
Since it is always good to be in community and for us to spend time with one another, we are encouraging you to come weekly from September 5 – October 17 at 6:30 p.m. to watch the video for that week and spend some time in table discussions about the video. If you are unable to attend every week, come to those that you are available and you can watch the other weekly videos from home, as your schedule allows. We will publish the weekly discussion questions in the bulletin the Sunday following the video we watched together Thursday night. Thanks to the generosity of a member of Corpus Christi, you have received a free subscription to FORMED.org – an amazing online platform that provides great content for faith formation for all ages. Here are some quotes from the various weeks of The Search and how they can guide us in our ‘Search’.
- The sheer scale of the universe is hard to imagine. Current scientific estimates indicate that the universe is 93 billion light-years in diameter, growing at an increasing rate, and has existed for about 13.7 billion years. The more you contemplate the vastness of the cosmos, the smaller you may start to feel. However, it is important not to confuse small with insignificant. Scientists claim that the precise age, size, and rate of expansion in the universe is what allows life to exist on this “little” planet we call earth. One could argue that we humans are so insignificant that the universe is bending over backward to sustain us!
- Jesus’ first words in the gospel of John are simply a question: “What do you seek?” (1:38) If someone were to ask you “what do you seek,” how might you respond?
- According to counselor Jim Owens, we can suffer from “destination addiction,” meaning that we don't believe we can be happy until our circumstances change. Can you think of an example of destination addiction in your life?
- “What if we are throwing away religion because of what we think it is?” What does religion mean to you?
- What do you think of the statement that Chris Stefanick mentioned, “We ask God why there are children dying of starvation in Haiti when God says, ‘I was about to ask you that same question?’”
- “Without a love story, marriage is just a to-do list.”
- C.S. Lewis wrote that there are three options to believe in Jesus. "Jesus was either a liar, or a lunatic, or He was in fact the Lord. And you have to make your choice." What does this statement mean to you?
- Noelle Garcia says, “The triumph of our faith is not that there is no suffering. The triumph of our faith is that He has defeated it." What does she mean by this?
- Jonathan Pageau said, “We have bodies; we exist in these bodies, and so the spiritual life of the person also has to include the body. The liturgical experience (what we do at Mass and with the Sacraments) is part of that. How? Why?
Give yourself the blessing of joining us in The Search here at Corpus Christi.
God Bless,
